Maia Szalavitz is a neuroscience journalist who covers drugs, addiction, and public policy. She is a contributing opinion writer for the New York Times and has written for numerous other publications including TIME, Wired, Elle, the Nation and Scientific American.
Patricia Roos was a professor of sociology at Rutgers University when in 2015 she lost her son Alex at 25 years of age to a heroin overdose. In May, 2024, Rutgers University Press published her book about grief and resilience: Surviving Alex: A Mother’s Story of Love, Loss, and Addiction.
Partnership to End Addiction, in collaboration with Paramount’s in-house content studio, created Untreated & Unheard: The Addiction Crisis in America, a new documentary that follows individuals and families impacted by substance use disorder.
