$50 million in California IOUs Remain Unclaimed
The state of California will begin mailing letters this week to people who have not yet cashed their California registered warrants, the IOUs the state used to fund its way through last year’s cash crisis and budget debacle. The letters, from the Controller’s and the Treasurer’s offices, point out that the IOUs collected and accrued interest only up to Sept. 3, 2009. Unclaimed Bail Money Headed to State Coffers
Many have done their time and paid their fines, but for whatever reasons the former suspects neglected to claim bail money they posted when they first appeared in court.  The courts this week will turn over $746,276 in unclaimed bail money to the state’s general treasurer’s office, some that dates to 1989, according to court spokesman Craig N.
